I just returned to Vancouver after two weeks on Maui.
The trade winds were strong before I arrived and resumed in full strength immediately after my departure.
During my stay I got to enjoy a single strong day of Kona (S/SW Wind) and sailed out of Kihei. The wind was so strong, in fact, that a wave break appeared on the reef there. Outside of that, there was barely any wind at all.
So I picked up cycling and went around most of the island, 30-35 miles at a time. It was wonderful and I am left completely satisfied with the trip.
These weather-dependent trips don't always work out the way we want them to, but that is part of the sport.
Excited for the spring westerlies.
PS: Look at the boards the locals are using to build their fences - I wouldn't mind owning some of those!
