Cypress Mountain 2020/ 2021

When it's absolutely too cold

by drh » Fri Dec 11, 2020 1:34 pm

It was great to have winter back at Cypress. About 15 CM of fresh snow. Almost all of the regulars were there including Bob, Rob, Tony, Chris, Jerry, Brian C - and saw Mike for the first time this year. Had some fun turns off piste with my nephew Matthew. :D

Day 8 - Snowboarding for the first time this season with all the usual suspects. Plenty of fresh snow (and poutine) to be found.

Happy to be one of the “usual suspects” today! Great to score some fresh tracks with friends (masked and distanced of course). Snow was really good today, after a sketchy looking week of warm and wet mountain weather.

Saturday. Hero cord. Bluebird. Comfy temp. 12 runs.

It was a full house. Enjoyed by Cersei, Jaime, Daenerys, Robb, Sansa, Arya, Theon, Brandon, Joffrey, Tyrion, Melisandre, Varys, Margaery, Ygritte, and many more.

But not Alton.

Day 9 - Snowboarding in 2-3 cm of fresh ... even more in Humpty Dumpty for tons of hits on the sides. Visibility was poor but the snow made up for it. Sky chair opened early so stayed there to avoid the long wait time for the Lions chair.

Day 10 - Snowboarding with the usual suspects. Heavy snow and loooooong wait times. Midway had best conditions but poutine was even better.

Day 11 - Snowboard in 5 cm of fresh ... but was only good for a few runs in heavy snow before it got tracked out by 9:30. Visibility was so poor, I had to ride slow without my goggles. Had time to kill before poutine was available so Jerry and I climbed to the top of the Raven chair ... only for a disappointing ride in 20 cm of HEAVY snow.

Surprisingly, it turned out to be a great day on the fat skis. Only about 5 CM showing on the snow stake at 6 AM. Took a chance and arrived in the parking lot at 8 AM and the skies turned blue. The clouds returned by the time the lifts opened and it was a bit foggy at times. However, there was about 15 CM of snow higher up. Rob and Bill were the only regulars I saw there. The sun popped out briefly when I went down Bowen Face for some superb powder turns. The lifts got busy by 10 AM. When I left at 10:30 there was a line-up of cars waiting to park that went all the way back to the nordic area. :o
