Sunday looks good for another S-SE session. Estimated speeds of 25-35mph down at Whidbey and Locust with lighter and later winds locally. The surface trough of low pressure is forecast to swing through around noon on Sunday. Should be good timing for the winds. I would say there's about a 75% chance of 40mph+ gusts on Sunday at Locust and Whidbey. The latest 48hr pressure tendency charts show the gradients really tightening along the surface trough. NOAA, NWS and EC should be upgraded to Gale Warnings by tomorrow night for Sunday.

Cheers,

Chris

Afternoon is a safer bet for 3rd on Sunday.

Finally a solid SE session on Sunday!

The SW + high tide on Friday and Saturday gets really complicated.

BTW most models are suggesting clocking to SSW Sunday afternoon so I have my eyes on Sunday morning.

Hang on. WTF happened to Sunday? I hope METAR/TAF updates will be more encouraging.

TAFS should be upgraded for Bellingham and Whidbey shortly Alton. The nice thing with this surface trough is that the winds will back counterclockwise from westerly to south/southeasterly and not veer clockwise from easterly to south/ southeasterly like 99% of our storms.

This feature alone almost always guarantees a very windy day. The winds are generally stronger and more stable with this setup given an equal pressure gradient. Good mixing down to the surface with a nice steep lapse rate. However, I would still look at Locust or Whidbey first. They will get the strongest and longest winds tomorrow for sure. Dawn patrol like C36 and Mike pulled the other day would be a good bet. It should back and really ramp up around the early afternoon locally.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Chris. High tide at Locust makes launching kites too risk. I'm betting on a solid SE at Boundary Bay so my daughter can score a much deserved session without the risk of clocking SW.
