Pistol River The Cape and Gold Beach 2023

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

I am going to head down to Pistol River tomorrow (Wed), think I should get 3 days of good wind, then not sure if I will hang around if the wind dies or go to Bend and then Hood River.

Hope I can get out, first timer for the Pistol.

The IWT is definitely not happening, no one was willing to organise it, the organisation expectations changed after the IWT PWA collaboration.

Good to hear, we can show you how it works here, looks like it'll be windy.

On a no wind day we went North as far as Floras Lake, there were wingers there and a very nice campsite. Also looks like a few potential winging spots like Cape Blanco with nice almost breaking swell, or crumbling swell. Might be an option when the cape and the rock are too strong.

Cape Blanco, looks like it could be good for winging, we didn't go out but looks like worth a try if windy. The launch would be South of where this is taken at the Cape Blanco state park beach trail head .

Awesome. Will arrive late Thursday morning and then check it out. What time do sailors show up?

People show up at around 11.30, or earlier if very windy. Today was too windy so earlier would have been better.

Looks like you'll need it. We'll arrive around then or shortly after.

Had a great time in Pistol River, meeting everyone. Thanks Ryan and Jenn for all the tips, definitely helped me make progress in conditions I have never dealt with before. Shout out to Simon! Locals were great and friendly. Leo said I was now a Rock Addict - I will go back so maybe I am...

I'm glad you made the pilgrimage to the rock! It was good sailing with you. If you can wave sail the rock on a decent day you can pretty much handle conditions anywhere.

Fun times! As Chris said, thank you Ryan and Jen for the helpful tips. Good to meet you Chris. Friday was my best day on the water, great to end on a high note. Tried some winging at Flora’s Lake on Saturday, great place to learn.
