MCL - Knee?

Anyone have issues with MCL in knee?
I've had an ongoing thing with one of my knees for several years. It flares up from time to time. I can go months with very little or no pain, but then I can have irritation for a few months. I went to the doc's a few years ago and initial diagnosis was a possible meniscus issue. While waiting for MRI knee pain went away, MRI doc refused to do MRI.
It's been acting up again.
Pain on inside of knee when I push on the sweet spot. Swelling in same area minor.
Walking with slight limp.
Obvious thing should be get checked out, but I've been down that road before. Just wondering if any of you old timers have been dealing with this sort of thing. It doesn't stop me from going out, but it does limit me slightly. I pop advil prior to vigorous exercise, and in some cases apply ice after exercising.

try ultrasound (< $200) london drugs. <5 minutes every couple of days.
It works for me on shoulder, etc. great little device.
