Check the photo on the bottom, he crashed in hookipa and while getting the "washing machine" from the wave. His fins cut him so wide, that he could enter his entire hand into the womb. He got 40 stitches... He had to sail back to shore... And was scared of getting eaten by the sharks !

He is fine now :-)

Reminds me of the windsurfer at Nintinat about 15 years ago the cut his femoral artery on his fin after an innocent jump and passed away before he reached the beach................freaking scary!

The trend to thinner profile fins has resulted in very sharp trailing edges.

 You can reduce the sharpness of the trailing edge (and the risk if getting cut) by drawing a polishing wet sandpaper along the trailing edge a few times (anything in the 600 to 2000 grit range will work). Most wouldn't notice a difference in performance, but it will dull the edge enough that it might reduce the amount of damage the fin(s) could cause.

The blunt, stock-chopped freestyles fins I prefer are totally dull and harmless :D

Here's a technique I like to use:

Rough-grind the fin on the rocks at the Spit stairway. Then do a wet-sand with a fine grit along the sandbar at low to medium tide.

Rounded fins also keep boards turny and loose.
