Boards for Trade?

For sale, wanted and promotions

by mjamero » Mon Apr 11, 2016 11:04 am

I am looking for a Starboard Carve 121 (for me) and maybe a Carve 111 (for my wife). I am currently sailing a Carve 131. I'm only 140lbs so I think the 131 might be a bit too big for me. Anyone have a Carve 121 they would like to trade?

TRADES
Trade Starboard Carve 131 or Go 171 for: Starboard Carve 121, Futura, or Atom IQ.
OR...
Trade Starboard Hypersonic 125 or Go 171 for: Starboard Carve 111, Futura, or Atom IQ.

Carve 121 are difficult to find , what ever you do, do not get anything older than 2005.
Good luck in your search

Thanks for the tip. Why would you suggest to avoid Carves older than 2005 (assuming the condition is OK)? Yeah, Carve 121's don't seem to pop up very often.

I used to have Carve 121 during my early days of windsurfing. I practically gave it to Francis. Maybe he's not using it anymore.

I am a big starboard fan ( I own 6 of them right now) anything before 2005 was not really well shaped and designed , from experience I find that the 2005 and later models are easier to ride and perform better.
KP himself had to borrow a 2006 pure acid at a wave bash not long ago and still did really well ( he is also really good lol that helps)

I have a carve 99 that you can try in Squamish if you want to go that small. I think it is a 2001 (red one with white and yellow stripe) it has seen many, many days but is still light, watertight, and relatively fast. I haven't tried any newer starboards to chime in on the discussion above, but I do enjoy this one.

Sorry guys it's long gone, it has been replaced with fanatic 123 and 7m retro :D I agree this kind of volume is hard to find, I just got lucky "my buddy Richie knows that" ;)

Yeah, I am a big Starboard fan as well. I learned (and am continuously learning) to sail a few seasons ago through Windsure on their selection of Starboard boards. I guess a person likes and goes with what they are familiar with. I am familiar with Starboard.

Both my carve 131 (2003-2004) and my wife's Hypersonic 125 (2003) are older designs now but seem to ride quite well. I don't have a point of reference for what newer versions feel like so I can only comment on what I have experienced with these. The Hypersonic is known for being somewhat unforgiving. My wife took to it very quickly even though it was a significant decrease in volume from the board she learned on. This is my second season on the Carve 131. It was relatively easy to adjust to but it is now that I am finally starting to feel like I am getting to know it. I know most of you are chuckling at the moment. Some of the boards sailed by members here are toothpicks compared to our 131 and 125 boats . We are still progressing... we'll get to the toothpicks eventually. Both these boards were our first "real" boards after stepping down from the bigger training boards like the Go's and Rios.

Thanks for the offer Craig. I must admit I have not sailed at Squamish "yet" It is on the list for this season. My wife and I now have a dedicated windsurfing van with our gear ready to go so it should be much easier this year. We are committed. Just need to get up the courage. Same goes for Boundary.

99 might be okay for my wife by the end of the season but it could be a bit small for me. The two primary goals for this season are waterstarts and carve gybes. I need a volume that will still allow me to uphaul when sailing at Jerhico with a 7.5 but small enough that will allow me to progress. I would love to try your 99 once I get to squamish though. I'll be gentle.
