Avalanche.ca was calling for 20-30 CM of snow last night with a freezing level of 1200 M, and another 20-40 CM today. I checked the Cypress snow stake cam at 6:30 AM but it only showed a trace of new snow. Uh, oh. I took a chance and arrived at the hill at 8 AM. First bonus was free parking in the lodge lot and very few people. The thermometer in the car read 0 Celsius and there was sleet which soon turned to snow. Got to the top of the Lions Chair and found about 20 CM of fresh snow. Did Gibsons, Horizon, Upper Bowen, Slash, Moons (twice), Upper & Lower Rainbow, then Humpty Dumpty a couple of times. I spoke to a ski patroller by the Sky Chair who said they would likely not open the chair all day as it was windy up there and so much snow that it had buried some of the fences. On the next lap James and I hiked to the top of Top Gun for great fresh tracks as only two people had been down there before us.
No line-ups at all on the Lions Chair until about 10:30 AM when it was a two minute wait. Skied until 11:30 AM. Fantastic day to finish off the season.
