Day 29 - Fun riding with Brian C and LeopardSkin. Other than foggy patches, snow was slick (easy to glide) and excellent for grippy turns.

Saturday morning. Every chair was open. Lift lines around 5 mins all morning, and zero on Raven. Wowsers that's what I'm talking about.

Lower expectations => better outcomes (thx Alton). A surprisingly good “spring” morning on Cypress. Hero corduroy on Horizon; Sky and Raven both open early; no crowds; good light, and only one short rain shower. Too bad I had to ski alone all morning.

What is the best forecast site for cypress or the local mountains?
I was going to try cypress today but saw a forecast last night that it would be 2 degrees and raining all day.

Hi Richi,
Yes, Cypress is a tough call on borderline days like today. I wouldn’t risk it without a season pass, and I often make my decision on the morning of my ski day.
I generally use ECs hourly Vancouver forecast to predict when the rain may begin, combined with the detailed Cypress snow forecast to check their precip and freezing level predictions. I also check the current temp on Seymour’s website, since Cypress’ temp gauge is usually stuck at 0C. Lastly, I look up at the N Shore mountains to see if they are already enveloped in cloud and precipitation.
This morning it looked like a decent chance of sneaking in a couple dry hours (9-11 am) and it was a lucky guess.
Btw, the cypress downhill conditions webpage has a link to the 3rd party detailed forecast.

Hey Richi, check out this site:
https://www.livepow.com/resort/cypress.html

Gives the past/current temps and reported snowfall from the Cypress website and a weather sensor on the summit.

Forecast is from GFS and includes cloud levels which can give insight into fogginess (at Cypress low clouds are probably fog on most of the mountain but sometimes inversion with clear skies on the mountain)

Day 30 - Desperate for some physical activity I chose today of all days. Hunted around in the drizzle, fog and inconsistent grooming from the Eagle and Raven chair ... then finally got to Humpty Dumpty (6 runs) for great visibility and soft snow perfect for cranking tight turns.

No familiar faces today.

Had some runs this morning with Alton and Tony. Quite scenic as Cypress had blue skies and sunshine above the fog which covered the city. The grooming was good in spots but mediocre in other areas.
