Weather Talk For BC no matter what you ride

The Eddie is on Green Alert (again)

When there's absolutely no wind

The Eddie Aikau Big Wave surf contest at Waimea Bay, Oahu is yet again on standby as an XXL swell with good winds are forecast to provide consistent, day long contestable big wave surf tomorrow.

They will make the final call at 8am Haiwaii time, 10am PST

The last time they ran this event was 2009 and in my opinion are a little picky about conditions (they have only run the contest 9 times out of the last 30 years or something like that). If unfamiliar, you can read about the scoring format on wiki as well

Should be an awesome event, just wanted to share in case fellow surfers weren't aware it was happening!

I watched the last event that didn't even run. LOL. They set up the tables and TV's and scaffolding etc and talked for a couple of hours and it didn't happen. I hope it goes tomorrow. I'm at work, so I will be able to catch every minute of it.

Titans of Mavericks ended up going a couple days after Eddie was cancelled.
That was cool to watch, I'm liking this paddling into big wave resurgence.

Seems a bit more pure without the tow ins.

The Mavericks contest started off with a bang. Some amazing drops! The swell fizzled out for the final heat. Was hoping for a bit more action at the end.

Today is looking good. Surfline saying swell to peak at 39 feet by 2pm. 39 foot well could mean some HUGE faces.

Surfline Reports
"Thursday, with a high likelihood of seeing 25'++ (50'++ faces) closeout sets throughout the day. The question now isn't if it will be big enough. Now the concern is it may very well be too big"

Some BIG! Wipeouts today. steep drops, and huge waves.

Pretty cool watching Kelly Slater take off way inside and get barrelled.

John John looks at another level out there.
