Corroded Booms - Not even once.

Windsurfing shop talk

So I was convinced I'd be able to fix an old UBC club boom, to get a cheap replacement for my late Neil Pryde X6. I was wrong: Despite 200 horsepower, the thing hasn't moved a damn inch... currently soaking it in WD 40.

Any ideas?

Try WD 40 - soak in hot H2O - then put hot cloths on the Boom Arm to expand it & try again

Try using a rubber mallet and bang it in/together then out a few times one side at a time. Make sure it's on a solid surface so there is no shock absorption - all the force is on the seized section. I have had success getting booms and extensions apart this way over the years.

Adrien - keep the updates going on your boom progress. I'm taking my shoulder day to day and do have some "scheduling" conflicts this weekend but really hope to get out there. If I do, I can bring my spare boom (needs harness lines I think).

Ditto on spare boom (if I'm there I am happy to share).

Thanks for the support guys, I really appreciate it.

I'm still fighting a losing battle with this thing, though I haven't lost hope yet as I still have a few more tricks to try with it.

Mike, my right shoulder is also giving me a bit of grief after a hard wakeboarding crash in Idaho this weekend. It feels like a rotator cuff issue, but hopefully it'll be fine by this weekend.

If you can get the head off the boom you will need two hammers and two pieces of rope (10mm thickness) and 2' long each. Tie a loop in each rope so you can fit the hammers thru. wrap one rope around the boom arm and the other around the tail piece. you need to wrap each piece with the hammers in such a way that you can counter lever them. Hope you can figure that out?
