I don't really know as I haven't tried it. I'm pretty sure it would make AT LEAST some difference. Question is whether it's enough for the wind your facing.
Being able to pump to foil makes a big difference. Yes it can be a lot of work but you get smarter with it with practice.
The cams on the sail will help once on the foil vs wave sail that may turn off if the wind is too light.
When you go to light wind, you realistically need MUCH bigger for each small increment of lighter wind. Even with massive pumping my 6.8, I can not match the folks on their 8.5s.
For me, I went with the duotone foil sail as it works with my 430 mast and my older boom. I went with the biggest I could find without having to get another mast or boom.
