Check your travel insurance

Windsurfing shop talk

If you haven't read the story:

I'm checking my travel insurance with Blue Cross and was not satisfied or confident with the answer. She said if it's not specifically stated you're ok, but then also said it's case by case (the policy wording does leave room for interpretation). She did say she'll check on this and get back to me....

Food for thought.

Insurance is all about the ("warranttees" - which is insurance speak for exclusions or holes in your policy) and it is best to make sure you have the coverage that you think you have before you find yourself not able to make a claim.

I have encountered this issue before (spent a lot of time on the phone) and found that if you are purchasing a one-time policy, they are likely to tell you 'case-by-case' (as Mike said), but if you have coverage through your employeer that includes out of province coverage they confirmed you are absolutely covered.

 A friend of mine who is self-employeed was able to find 'good' coverage, including action sports. I will post the name of the company he dealt with later.

Talked on the phone with BCAA and they seem better than Blue Cross (including better customer service). I'd have to suggest you confirm yourself for your circumstances. They also referred me to their "policy wording book" that I haven't looked at yet.

I have always called to make sure windsurfing was not considered an extreme sport. The answer I always get is "it's fine unless your competing as a professional"

I guess that means pro sailors in the PWA at pistol river may need extra coverage.
