Richi, we started off idling the truck and splashing the high beams on the water from the shortest parking-beach distance we could find, to the approval of the environment agencies
But it was more of a placebo effect than anything else, and after the first few runs we turned the lights off and just let our eyes adjust fully. I was also concerned we may be attracting some big game fish
There was a pretty distinct wind shadow from the launch we initially chose, but as we moved further east the wind was filling in much closer to shore. It's funny because I was talking to Dave earlier today about the epic potential of the "mini bays" between Dog's beach and Locarno for freestyle/mini ramps setup, and that's exactly how it lined up tonight!!! The best example I can give is like a tame, sunless version of Laguna Beach Park, in Naxos Greece:
http://www.continentseven.com/2014/09/2 ... promponas/ It was just butter flat between the "mini ramps", and there were some sizeable, well organized faces on the outside. Once we moved further east, near the "Spanish Banks East Concession", it was waist/neck deep until around 100m out, which was somewhat reassuring..
Never went too far out, though, in remembrance of Lubo's mast break on our last night sail way back when, and my tacks were incredibly consistent on the outside thanks to the image of Orcas on the hunt in my mind
Unreal way to score the 50th day of the year. My only regret is that the sun wasn't out to make the most of the epic conditions. Fingers majorly crossed for tomorrow!! And my feet have once again been cheese-gratered by barnacle covered rocks...
Bellingham was a bust, but thanks to Alton's recommendation filling my tank cost me 32 bucks, and I think Locust trips will end up being cheaper than Boundary Bay trips thanks to Fred Meyers
And apologies for the essay ^, but my stokeometer is revving off the charts right now
