Monday Westerly

I got in a quick dawn patrol at the bottom of Tolmie. Pretty lit on 7m and small surfboard, really nice shoulder-high waves over the sandbar.

No crowds, just a wing or two at Locarno.

Jens and I both rigged 4.5’s.

Started with 5m+surfboard at Spanish Banks with huge gusts and lulls and crazy chop ... then a walk of shame from Locarno.

8m+surfboard was the right call in W 20-30 (chop cleaned up) to get up to Acadia to share the waves with 2 windsurfers (C36, Jens, Carl?), 2 more kiters on surfboards (Mike and Sean) and a ton of wingers including (Jaryn and the Bush family) ... heavenly glassy waves ... must have been wingers paradise.

Great way to start the week.

...crazy chop ... heavenly glassy waves ... Great way to start the week.

7M and kite surfboard was the call for me. Laundry washer chop out of Spanish Banks but gradually improved up to Acadia. Much time cycling into dog beach with Sean (nice wave set up). Got my "bell rung" a few times when hitting a little chop at speed (one contact lost ). That is, there were a few times when footstraps would have helped but overall not needed. Missed having a sessions like that and seeing all the local regulars. Hopefully more like it coming soon.

I wasn’t keen on the holey conditions at Acadia when I was there about 10am, so opted to launch at Locarno. Thanks to Kato, I took my big (95 l) board with my 4.5 sail which worked great in the gusty/holey wind. Had a really fun 1-1-2 hours playing in big swell out by the freighters, with minor chop closer in. Fun re-union with friends back at the beach too.

Summer twilight. Arrived about 8:30 am to find Carl rigging 3.7/76 and the wind looking pretty solid. When I walked down to the waters edge at the bridge I started regreting leaving my small board at home - when do we ever sail small gear at Acadia in September? I decided to go with the familar and rigged 4.5/92 and luckily the wind backed a little as I was rigging. Carl was making the small stuff work! I was a little undergunned at first. Jens joined in. The wind backed. Took a break in the cove. Got a few well powered rides in the short lived rebound then called it at noon. Fun way to start the day! Epecially with the warm air, warm water and sunshine!

Thanks for the pics Dave! Sorry I missed it , would have been an Oregon Coast reunion! Nice to hear so many made it out yesterday. Hopefully I'll see you guys in Boundary Bay soon!
