Squamish 2021

Kitesurfing shop talk

After Alton JR finished her morning session in steady SW 20, I got to try the 8m in steady SW 20-22 with TT and surfboard. 23m lines felt great for boosting and also worked well cranking gybes on the surfboard ... so I might keep the 4m line extensions on even in the winter.

2 hrs in SW 20-30 on 8m with surfboard then TT. Many complained about gusty conditions but the 8m Ultra felt very civilized.

3 hrs in SW 18-25 on 8m alternating between surfboard and TT from super flat water to nicely formed swell.

2 hrs in SW 25 with an early morning start. Shared 8m+TT with Alton JR (working on her boosting and back roll attempts). For me 8m+TT in the river was just perfect for boosting when the wind cranked up.

For bragging rights, I switched to 5m+surfboard cranking gybes in the river. First time I ever seen the windsurfers outnumber the kiters in the river.

On Saturday, the freestyle play zone was mirror smooth from 11:30 to 13:00. It was windy right away. Even though low tide was predicted to be at 12:43, that's when the chop started rolling in.

Similar to yesterday except I started earlier in the morning on 7m+surfboard in the smooth river with SW 18-22. Switched to 8m+TT when it ramped up to SW 20-25.

Didn't seem as busy as Saturday. Fun times :D

Shared 8m with Alton JR as she progressed on her boosting and back rolls.

Steady SW 20-22 in the afternoon. Perfect for boosting on TT and hero gybes in the smooth river water.

Nuking day! After work took the afternoon shift on 8m+TT in SW 25-30 ... way too much ... so took the surfboard down to Nexen ... still too much.

Switched to 5m+surfboard ... just right. Very civilized quick turning gybes in the river and way outside.

Oddly, I've used the 5m more than the 12m in my new quiver ... great Squamish season so far.

Waited patiently for honking conditions in the afternoon ... and honk it did. SW 27g32 was perfect for 5m+surfboard ... so civilized. Had the most fun hitting knee high waves down at Nexen. Never realized that I'd be using a 5m so often at Squamish.

Yep. Saw the forecast. For the first time ever, I brought a small board to the spit. It was way windier than the previous day. 82 litre and 4.2 worked great.
