Yet another fine day at the Spit. 2.5 hrs in steady SW 20-24 with smooth water on 9m+surfboard. Full house.

Why is the water not flat anymore on low tide?

Maybe the river current is too slow? Run off from mountain snow will happen later as we approach summer.

Repeat of yesterday. Steady SW 20 with smooth water upwind of upper sandbar on 9m+surfboard. Big turn out. Spit parking was 80% full.

Standard issue. Day trip to the spit. BUMPY road. Launch and exit from the river. Water was fresh and wind was gentle and fairly stable. Moving most of the time. Lots of string, short tacks, no look turns, no look jumps, Pretty standard issue for the spit with the exception of the two bears (mother and cub) and the south access road being closed.

Pandemic was over.

The good news is I was going slow as I knew it was shallow. Also, no loss of fin and the way the fin cut into the board, no water in board. However, I think I should have known better. Minor fill repair to do.

Mike - your FCS screw threading may have been compromised so your screw may not hold your fins as securely any more. Regardless, I still recommend you additionally adhere your fins to your board with a thick layer of silicone. If you ever need to remove your fins, you can easily remove the silicone with a knife.

Many of my FCS threads are stripped but with the silicone I have not yet lost a fin after bottoming out several times a year in shallow conditions.

Thanks for the suggestion Alton. I already use silicon at the tip of the fin as weeds otherwise catch there. So maybe more now. Also could switch to stock fins for summer squamish as I think they are snap in (fsc2?). If I were to lose a fin, I'd rather lose a stock fin over the weed Makaini fin.

What was the wetsuit of choice? 4/3 or 5/x ? Does anyone know if there’s access to Nexen on weekends?
