Cypress Mountain 2020/ 2021

When it's absolutely too cold

Day 41 - I think I chose wisely by choosing Cypress over Boundary Bay. Fun morning snowboarding in 10-15 cm of heavy mini-pow. Only bottomed out a couple of times. LeopardSkin and I scored 2 almost virgin (sloppy seconds) runs. The rest were 50% untracked.

When the season is over, Whistler might be an option with their 20% reduced rates (season & edge pass only) they announced today. I don't know if that really makes much of a difference.

FYI. Whistler Blackcomb pass is sold in CAD as expected, while the Epic pass is sold in USD.

The only pass of interest for Cypress guys would be Whistler day pass, which is reduced 20%. I don't know what a good deal is for Whistler... everything seems crazy expensive. I checked on some places I used to ski in Switzerland and they are still cheaper with the strong CHF vs CAD. I might lock in a 3 day pass for next season. Not sure if CAD 266 plus tax is a deal.

Day 42 - Foggy, poor grooming, crumbly, some "sandpits" ... overall crap. Chris and I (skiing) did manage to forage some good runs. Glad I made it to poutine time without injury :D

Not looking very good up there today Alton. Timing is everything for spring skiing, for sure. Yesterday afternoon in the warm sun produced classic spring conditions. Perfect corn, enjoyed by me and Mokka plus a horde of spring break “groms”. Sky chair was awesome from about 2-3, in the sun and just above the clouds, with no lines. After that, everything cleared off and was great, as long as you didn’t mind the long lines on Eagle and Lions.

Day 43 - Pleasantly surprised. Fun morning skiing with Mike. Dmitri was skiing too. Excellent grooming. Fog only covered 25% of each run where we took it slow. Otherwise, most of the runs were hero conditions with minimal wait times. So happy I went today.

Avalanche.ca was forecasting 15-25 CM for last night but with a freezing level rising high to 1400 M, then 15-25 CM today with a freezing level of 1100 M. There was only about one CM showing on the snow stake webcam this morning and it was alternating between sleet and snow in the parking lot when I arrived at 8 AM. Turns out there was about 10-15 CM of fresh snow near the top of the hill. Lots of great turns on the fat skis on Slash, Moons, Gibsons and Upper Bowen. No line-ups.

Well, that's it for the Whistler Blackcomb season!

Even though the Cypress indoor dining areas are closed for the season, Alton can still get his poutine at The Shack outdoor facility.

Day 44 - Groomers were good but tracked out and crumbled quickly. Otherwise, nice hanging with the usual suspects. Pleasantly surprised "The Shack" opens at 9:30am to serve my favourite poutine.
