Ideal Foil Mast Length for Boundary Bay, 3rd Ave, Centennial

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

Looking to compliment my 103cm mast which is a bit long for sailing in Boundary Bay but rocks everywhere else.

What length mast is ideal for wingers to avoid sandbars?

My choices are 87cm or 71cm(older hoverglide mast)...not sure if 87 is enough difference to open up more Windfoiling TOW....

Hey man, maybe the 71? I have a 60cm mast as my shallow water mast but I feel the length is useless for back and forth winging and windfoiling and always reach for the 95 for low tides and deal with the huge pain of the extra walk out. I wish my 60 was a 70.

Hey Dallas, my 82 works well at 3rd Ave. Launching at 3rd helps a lot as it's farther out than Centennial and the boat launch, so you hit deeper water quicker. Now that you're used to the 103 going to the 70 might get frustrating, especially when the waves kick up.

I've been using a 70 winging. Definitely have to keep focused on the altitude, but still fun to ride in swell and having a shorter mast does give it a much more surfy/skate feel. Took some getting used to coming from a 90 and still overfoil here and there. I'd say the 80 is probably a good compromise unless you're really trying to ride shallow or prone surf.

All good points. I guess I should try the 87Wide mast https://www.mackiteboarding.com/2022-slingshot-phantasm-aluminum-wide-foil-mast/ and if I find it's too long I could cut it down, I saw in a forum http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-50897.html you can cut it with a chop saw and re-tap the holes. I think 80-84 ish would be a good second mast, 71cm is probably going to be frustrating.

Slingshot sent me a replacement fuselage under warranty because mine was corroded. I went and had the old one sanded and powder coated so I'm only a mast and a stabilizer away from a second Phantasm setup.

In my experience fuselages actually do best when not painted/coated at all.
Rather than corroding aggressively where the coating is removed by scratches etc they just get a light coat of oxidization everywhere.
