Lower Back Pains

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

Mike - I tried alternating between hot water and cold water in the shower on my lower back for 45 seconds each 3 times. Oddly enough, the cold water isn't that bad because my back goes numb after 15 seconds. Getting back into a wet wetsuit in the winter is much worse.

Anyone else have any tips so I can get back on the water on Tuesday?

Inversion tables are golden to help stretch out your back. I still use mine regularly.

I had some issues with mine seizing this fall. My problem was stiff hip flexors and weak glutes causing anterior pelvic tilt, which really strains the low back. Aggravated by long sessions squatting with a tight back on the board plus desk time. Needling from a PT is one of the fastest ways to release your muscles if they're knotted up and I've been getting lots of that in the hip flexors, glutes and back. Also RMT and chiro has been very helpful too.
Foam roller or lacrosse ball rolling the back, glutes, piriformis, quads can help loosen things up. And also try voltaren gel, that helped me a lot!

Hey Alton I've had a L5-S1 disc herniation since my early thirties and learnt how to live with the pain. Like Slappy said make sure you get yourself a seat harness. The moment I use a waist harness that's huge trouble for me. To make things worse I snowboard instead of skiing which is not ideal as the position on the board is not a natural position for the back.I use Cliptolgel which is not available in Canada because made in France. It's ibuprofene and levonmenthol gel which also works quite well on the lower back.
Now if you get an acute inflammation like I did last year, only rest and chiropractic sessions will work like Mike suggested. Then, do some strengthening back exercises but make sure you go progressively otherwise you will prolong your pain or risk re injuring yourself.
I'm 50 almost 51 and we're all middle aged men with wear and tear my friend!
You'll get better soon. Long time no see by the way.
