From the Ocean Front FB page.
April 2021: Matthews West announces the next phase of Oceanfront Squamish’s utility installation.
Main Road Utilities construction project will include the preload for the extension of the Oceanfront main road as well as the preload and ground densification for the Presentation Center/Public House. This project will also pull municipal utilities down the remainder of the main road to service future development.
Access to the Oceanfront will be affected in areas and trails adjacent to the construction. This map outlines the restricted areas for this construction project.
Matthews West has obtained all necessary Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada approvals and work will be overseen by a Qualified Environmental Professional at all times.
Enhanced safety precautions will be taken through increased signage and onsite security personnel. We strive to maintain as much access as is safely possible, however some access to the southern area of the Oceanfront peninsula will be closed starting beginning of April 2021 - and will remain closed for the duration of construction. This construction project is expected to last until the end of June 2021.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. Should you have any questions or comments please direct them to kristen@mwest.ca

Hmm. That’s going to make launching at Nexen tricky!

Hey Ryan does it mean Nexen beach will not be accessible until after June 30th or simply that it will be restricted some days?
Thanks Nick

The press release says that access will be restricted to only the East side until June. So basically we'd have to launch off the South shore East of the point, or into the Mamquam blind channel. That's the way I interpret it anyway.
Also looks like one could launch off the trail to the west, but you'd have to carry your gear a long way.

From that map, it looks like the bit I kind of hang about in to learn is now out of bounds.. I pretty much end up on the beach every time, is that right?

Fuck it...moving to Mexico...

At mid or low tide it's still usable I'd say. Even at high tide you could sorta Wade your way back I think. Mexico sounds nice though!

I mean it's not gonna be fenced off in the water... I'll see what I can get away with...

I set my goal to be able to waterstart and plane so I could use the spit...now the Spit AND Nexen are questioned..(well Nexen at least for a while anyway)...

If gonna start knitting, I bet they'll make knitting needles illegal! hahaha
