Cypress Mountain 2022/ 2023

When it's absolutely too cold

Day 31 - Pleasantly surprised by 20-40 cm of heavy pow. Usual suspects included Chris, Rob, Bob and Doug.

Pearled my snowboard a couple of times so learned to only ride the untracked runs. Plently of untracked on Jasey Jay, WindJammer and Lower Fork (poached). Fun riding out with Doug down the Olympic run.

Relieved that new snow filled in what was washed away by the torrential rains last week.

I wouldn't say it's the worst morning ever, but it's def in the top 10 (or is it the bottom 10?).

Last year the season ended Sunday April 10. Hopefully we'll be just as lucky this season.

Runs of the day: Humpster Dumpster, Horizon Bypass, Lower Cat Track. Rode with Alton, Abbbigail, Aaardvarrk and the rest of the Asssembly.

Wowsers Humpster Dumpster. Just the right pitch. Enough fresh so there was no bottoming-out. Got there when it opened. You know when you drop into a big bowl of freshies? That's what it felt like. Speedy cruisy surfy. Ripped the WTFBC out of it. I don't think I've ever done that on Humpster Dumpster. 100% certified tomato fresh.

Day 34 - Had a good dump this morning. Oddly runs got better and better as snow continued to fall. Fun snowboarding with Patrick ... Mike and LeopardSkin were there too.

I heard that the Raven Chair was expected to finally open today but no one was saying what time that would be. I took a chance and went straight to the Eagle Chair then was the first one down Black on Black. There was about 8-20 CM of snow which varied (likely due to wind intensities and directions over the past 24 hours) over a firm but smooth base. When I got down to the Raven Chair there was a 15 minute wait for the ski patrol to finish their morning sweep. Had great turns on Coyote 7 and Meteor. Skied until about 11 AM and still got fresh tracks on my exit run on Olympic. No waiting at all at the Raven Chair. I never went to Lions or went back to Eagle but I imagine it was a zoo as when I left there were cars parked all along the sides of the road and Lot 3B was 90% full.

Day 35 - Fun day riding with Mike. We started with Lions but (like Doug said) it was a zoo. Went for a couple of Eagle runs until our patience drove us to Raven which was the call. Coyote 7 still had over 20 cm of untracked pow so did it 4 times. Happy ending with plenty of pow down the Olympic run.

Day 36 - Terrible day riding with LeopardSkin ... couldn't wait to go home. Good groomers with a thin dusting but flat lighting and mixed fog
