Cypress Mountain 2021/ 2022

Dec 24,25th and Jan 1 are usually less crowded but the rest of the Christmas break is usually REALLY BUSY. If you can get Seymour tickets, they are limiting numbers more diligently, but otherwise I’d stay away from the local mountains between Boxing Day and the end of school break.
Today was quieter than usual for Dec 24, perhaps because the Alex Fraser Bridge was closed and it was a storm day.

…I’d just add that in past years, the traffic jams on the mountain roads have been horrible during the Christmas peak period.

Merry Xmas ... looks like at least 3 cm of fresh this morning. Maybe more depending on when Cypress closed yesterday.

-5°C and still snowing in parking lot ... expecting dry freshies.

Busier than I was hoping for. Main lot already half full.

Day 25 - Great way to end 2021 with a pow day!!! Enjoyed by LeopardSkin, Rob W, Bob and Alan. Only 5 cm of fresh over Jasey Jay, Maelle Ricker and Crazy Raven ... but we were treated with 25-45 cm of dry pow down Coyote 7 and Tony's "super secret" run.

Wowsers Santa doesn't fool around. 18" dry pow on the super secret Xmas runs. Thanks to Santa, Mrs. Claus, and all the elves.

Yesterday afternoon was my first trip to Cypress in over 20 years I think. Traffic basically came to a slow crawl before the first parking lot at 2pm as we watched a stream of cars come down the mountain. Maybe 45 minutes later we were moving normal again. I don't know what the hold up was. A friend ahead of me later told me that some kid working traffic seemed to stop and chat with every car. The first lots had signs saying the upper parking lots were full but no one was pulling into them. I did but my daughter insisted we drive further up (no one is driving back down into the lots dad). Eventually we got to the top lots where there was a lot of open spaces. Its all a bit of a head scratcher to me, I think there could have been a lot more communication for drivers. That would have sucked to get to the top only to crawl back down.

Line ups were long. Maybe 15/20 min? Not sure. I started getting really cold by 6:30. We went in for burgers and poutine and then back on the hill at 7:30. I took off by myself while my daughter skied with a friend. It now took me only a few minutes in line up's and no waiting on thr runs down. Stayed nice and warm because I was no longer standing around. Ripped around for the next 1.5hrs, hit the bumps and came in. Good times.

Great morning at Cypress with blue skies, sunshine, and 15-20 CM of soft powder. Skied to about 10:45 AM with no line-ups on Raven and only a couple of minutes on Eagle and Lions. Still fresh tracks to be found on the last run.

According to the Cypress website, they had 35 CM in the past 24 hours. The bad news is that the only chair they managed to get open for the first hour this morning was Eagle so that was skied out quickly with big line-ups. I lucked out by hitting Raven shortly after it opened and was the first one down Black on Black, then second on Meteor which I then lapped. Quite a few face shots on the way down. The snow was a bit dense in the areas that were exposed to the wind last night, but superb where it was more sheltered. No waiting at all for the Raven chair.

30 cm dry freshies on JJ.

Multiple runs on the secret run with 45 cm dry freshies.

55 cm dry freshies on the super duper secret run.

Lots of car crashes. The road was closed due to accidents. AWD vehicles with all-season M&S tires (no Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol) slid into the ditch. A tree fell across the road and stopped all traffic too.

It's a decent start for 2022.
