Weather Talk For BC no matter what you ride

DYI front foil wing

Kitesurfing shop talk

I have a carbon lift foil, but didn't like how it rides on swell. Its more for racing. Needed bigger front wing, unfortunately it's older model no bigger wings available. Decided to build a copy of my current LF Impulse 1200, which I like a lot, that will fit Lift foil fuse.

Tried it today and glad that it works. Ride is the same as LF. The only difference is not as stable as Impulse due to back stab, LF has winglets which makes it more stable on directional ride. Also new wing is faster, I guess because I made it thinner. Fail few jibes, probably because the mast is carbon and change incline from side to side much faster than allow. No need to hold board on water starts, the only downside I have to body drag now. It's not drifting down, just sits on a side.

By the way I have lots of green pigment for resin left, If someone need it.

That's impressive Dmitry!
Is that pour in place foam you used? Why did you choose that instead of just shaping some existing foam sheet. Just curious, I don't know which would be best.

It was experiment. Probably eps core or dyvincell would work better.
Less shaping with pour in foam, because bottom was preformed.

I had 3 sessions already still OK.

That makes sense if it was preformed, I suppose you could 3d print a mold for the foam and form the whole thing. It's the glass/ carbon that gives all the strength so you should be fine if you used lots of layers.

Made another front wing. Higher aspect, thinner, core made from wood, cnc. Bought it from https://www.clearwaterfoils.com/products/kite-wing

4 layers of fiberglass top and bottom.

Hopefully will test it soon.
