Squamish 2021

Father and son. Ethan came up take advantage of the low tide to launch a kite from Nexen. Wind was steady end enough for him to drive upwind to the spit on 9m/surfboard. It took me a little longer to get moving on 5.3/116, but once going was able to catch up to Ethan and have some fun in the speed sailing course to the lee of the bank. When Ethan signalled he was headed back we both had enough power to drive off the wind back to Nexen. Fun afternoon in the sun!

Great to see C36 back in his element. Nice photos and lots of kite surfers in the background. Ethan seems at ease at Squamish. Let those knees know who's the boss.

Scored the 4pm Power Hour !!! SW 20-25 in glassy smoooooooth water on 9m+surfboard. Only me and Henry in the river cranking out hero gybes on our surfboards. We had so much space we could layout S-turns without shoulder checks ... super fun without the weekend crowds.

Great day of steady SW 18-22. Pessimistically started on 12m+surfboard then quickly switched to 9m for fast turning kite action. Favorite was the silky smooth river at the end of the day ... perfect for hero gybes.

Interesting. I was on 108/ 5.0, and you were going about the same as me. I'm about 85kg.

The 5.0 is now dead, eaten by the river when I was getting out in the strong current. All was going well until the clew caught as I was almost out and then the sail was pinned to the bottom and destroyed by big rocks.

That sucks! Sorry to hear that Ryan. It's a helpless feeling as your sail gets sucked under the water there. I've had that fight with the river many times but I've been lucky enough not to have my sail shredded by the rocks. Hope you have a backup!

Thanks Michael, yes, I have some spares, it's my first loss to the river in a while, it's part of the sport, if Oregon was open I'd probably be down a mast and sail by now.

That's for sure! I wish I was there now. Seeing the pictures from down south lately I'd gladly sacrifice a mast and sail to be down there. Might come up to Squamish today though, it's been a while.
