Weather Talk For BC no matter what you ride

Squamish 2021

Kitesurfing shop talk

Last day for Alton Jr (returning to Toronto) worked out as first on the water on 12m+TT in SW 10 gusting 13 then later on 8m+surfboard in SW 18.

Determined to try out my new (to me) 6m Airush Varial with surfboard ... ended up working it like hell in SW 15-16 only to get a few rides. Wind was so weak that even the 8m didn't work.

Oh well ... still a nice way to end the week (heading to Ottawa) ... so enjoy the wind without me

It's been over a week and finally got some. Desperately hoping for 8m+surfboard conditions so I was caught in purgatory with no escape from the river in marginal SW 16. After an hour I conceded to 12m+surfboard and cruised outside and way upwind.

When is the access road closing? I know the SWS goes until Sept 15 but the conditions usually go 'till October.

Not sure but I heard the road will be closed after Sep 15. I'll try to remember to ask.

Finally!!! 8m+surfboard worked in steady SW 18. Arrived at 2pm only to find it more crowded than a typical weekend. Pumped up my 8m then jumped into the river. Marginally powered so had to inch my way outside of the river. Scored almost 2hrs before the wind dropped. Called it quits since I had no interest in pumping a 12m.

Early'ish start at noon in SW 16-18 on 8m+surfboard off the sandbar into the river for a couple of hours. Smooth conditions way upwind of the river with lots of fish jumping and fishing boats catching them.

Just about to call it a day then watched the sensor hit SW 19 gusting 21 so pumped up my 6m. Had to work hard for my rides in the river but was confined to the river in purgatory for 0.5 hrs before calling it a day.

Great way to end the long weekend with only 20 minutes delay in traffic returning home.

Sunny sky but weak winds. Had a long wait before scoring 12m conditions in steady SW 18 on surfboard. Chased some kite foilers way upwind into the blue water to find some fantastic flat water.

Arrived at noon to light wind so pumped up 12m. As wind ramped up deflated the 12m and pumped up 8m. As overpowered kiters quickly returned, I finally commited to a 6m+surfboard ... perfect in SW 22 gusting 28.

Spent most of my time upwind of the river in smooooooth swell. At times holey but nothing to complain about when cranking hero gybes on a 6m in smooth water for 2 hrs.

Switched to 8m+surfboard when holes got bigger but the smooth water turned to rodeo style voodoo chop ... so called it a day ... leaving with a big grin.

Awesome day of steady wind and smooth water. Started at noon on 12m+surfboard in SW 16-18 only to realized that my 8m would work so spend over 2 hrs on 8m+surfboard chasing kite foilers way upwind into the smooth blue water ... then enjoyed some sweet swell rides down at Nexen.

Almost called it a day at 3pm when the wind ramped up to SW 20 gusting 24 so pumped up my 6m to enjoy another hour of swell riding in the river mouth.

What an amazing way to end the week!
