Fanatic footstrap screws - help please

Windsurfing shop talk

I have a bit of an on-going saga with my footstraps and I'm hoping someone could help me out. My board was shipped with the wrong screw size, a 7mm thread forming screw. This took me 1.5 years to figure out after finding this: https://forum.fanatic.com/d/27111-blast-undersized-hole-update
So I bought some 6mm "cobra" screws from Chinook, which are said to fit most boards including Fanatic.

There are essentially two types of 6mm thread forming screws though, with different pitches on the threads. I'm hoping someone with a fairly new Fanatic board might have one of their footstraps off and could measure the thread pitch for me. You might need calipers to do this though. I am entirely unconvinced that I have the correct screws. Even taking a photo of your screw would be helpful.

thanks

I have one from a 2020 Skate, it's 7 mm across the outside of the thread, and 5mm at the smooth part of the shaft above the thread. The screw shaft from end to below the cap is 28mm. The pitch is about 2.5mm.

Thanks. That's the same as the screw that came with my 2020 Blast. I don't get it, I find it incredibly difficult to tighten these footstrap screws and that's with the appropriate #3 PH screwdriver.

Mine were hard to get in initially too, but not so hard the second time. Maybe get a second opinion on the beach, get someone else to try.

Try a bit of soap on the threads. What’s wrong with the smaller screws? If you can’t get the big ones to fit?

It drives me insane that I might be cross-threading and wrecking the plugs every time that I remove and then re-install my footstraps. At some point I assume the threads will be trashed.

Don't have a fanatic, but I've used an impact drill to easily get footstrap screws in. Wouldn't recommend on a nice board though

I bought a 2019 Fanatic Freewave Team Edition 95L STB. It is highly under utilized but I do remember a snafu with a footstrap when I bought it at Big Winds. If I remember correctly they changed out the footstrap screws the day after I bought it when I was trying unsuccessfully to move a footstrap. I think he screw was spinning and not biting so they replaced with a larger screw. I wasn't thrilled with it being brand new but they said there was an issue with the stock screws/inserts I'm pretty sure. I can't remember if they replaced them all or just the affected screw.

If you phone Big Winds they might be able to help. There were Double Mountain IPAs and sleep deprivation from sleeping in the drivers seat of my truck due to a thunder storm flooding my tent so my memory might be a bit foggy. Damn I miss Hood River!

I just looked through my bins and I don't have the old ones, maybe they kept them. I don't really want to mess with a good thing by taking them out since they seem to be in now.

I did find a damaged vent screw o-ring, CHECK YOUR VENT SCREW O-RINGS!
