Yet another windsurfer reunion at Spanish Banks (C36, Michael, Johnny and me). This time one actually windsurfed.

Only W 18-20 with plenty of typical Spanish Banks chop ... good enough for my 8m+surfboard.

Good turnout at the terminal. Quite a few kiters and wingers. Sunny 8 degrees. Very pleasant. Nice to get out.

Awkward. The best part was my pre-session Falafel pita. I put away the big stuff (5.3/115) and opt for medium gear (92/4.5) as the wind ramped up while I was rigging. Enough south in the wind to make it unsettled over the bank (gusty and shifty). Wind wave angle had you hammering your way out then wind wave angle was too tight on the way in to do anything meaningful. Sadly only got one ride out and back overpowered and in battered around by wicked tightly spaced crisscross waist-high chop. This made for several wide-eyed moments on the way out. Came in and flattened the sail out just in time for the wind to start its gradual decent. Tired and tried again to make it work and finally relented and re-rigged the big stuff for a few fun runs. Sailed most of the session solo as the wingers and kites hung out outside (and I didn’t have the horsepower to play along). Also managed to tweak my right ankle early on getting pushed backward into the bottom by one nasty weird wave! On the plus side it was sunny and the air temp warmed a bit as the day melted away.

Thanks for the pictures Dave! Nice to see the usual suspects out. Tide was 1 ft too low and required the walk out across the entire mud flats. Wind and swell was great at the start and then got lighter. A few weird massive waves ran down the side of the tanker.

Michael, this is the new harness I've got, super lightweight and doesn't dig into your side as much as the strap only. Not sure where to find it in stock now.

Better than last week for me but had it's challenges for sure. Tide was just low enough to have to walk but high enough to make the walk a long struggle with the waves. It was also hard to get going with the choppy swell. Once I got things dialled in it felt better and there were a few nice waves out by the tankers. Sailed a little too close to one and got a shock when I jibed down a wave and was staring into the bow, those things are bid when you get close!

A few weird massive waves ran down the side of the tanker.

For sure, don't know where they came from, maybe the ships hull was pushing them up? They were crazy big and I managed to catch one on my last reach out there. Definitely wave of the day. Next time I'm going to see it that happens again or if it was just a fluke from the days conditions.

Thanks for the pics Dave! You didn't miss much outside, it was quite choppy, the waves were nicer near the beach just too shallow for us to sail in there.
