Summer at Boundary Bay

I sometimes see light morning wind at Boundary Bay. Judging by iwindsurf wind meter, it's probably 12M kite for me. This wind seems very localized and, therefore probably very small waves on the right tide at best. However, it's something different and a bit more local.

Tomorrow might be one of those days (mind you, low tide, weak forecast).

Anyone actually out on any of these days with any info?

I’ve noticed there’s quite often a 10-15 knot SE breeze which I am guessing is a thermal due to all of the flat farmland north of the bay, and what I have felt on the beach at 3rd seems to be more than what I reading on the BB airport sensor. With the really low tides I haven’t got the motivation to walk for a mile to the water for 15 knots yet.

Definitely foilable though.

That's what historically kept me from pulling the trigger. But the distance to Squamish is climbing thus the re visit.

I bought a mast from a guy that lived in boundary bay. He mentioned exactly the phenomenon you're describing, morning foilable winds with fun swell in the summer.

One kite out on the bay this morning

Rewarding 2 hour yoga session on 12M and SB. Played in knee to thigh high mini waves in warm water LOTS of weeds. Towards later part of my session I saw a foiler walking out south of where I was more towards the mile marker. Must have been less weeds there to make that work? Super fun and relaxing session - will try this again.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) has potential. Not a super compelling forecast but I'll be there if it looks like maybe12M kite conditions (wouldn't count on more but can hope).

Tide is a bit higher in the morning versus last time. Although for some this may seem like a positive I wonder if the nice little waves will still form when the wind is light?

Note to self - ensure weed fins are snug.

Fun sunny morning session with Mike! Even got a few waves but then had a bad fall. Didn't hurt much to start but after a while the pain started to kick in. Feels like I've bruised my ribs! Sucks as it's still windy out there. So nice to get in a summer Boundary Bay session. The 72L Drifter is super fun, a little challenging to get going but I think I've got the stinkbug waterstart dialled.

Fun sunny morning session with Mike!

Nice being out early with Michael. Handful of others showed up later.

Started on 9M kite and SB for about 1/2 hour. Switched to 12M on wind drop and good for the full morning.

Best 1/2 hour was in decent and endless waves on the outside in front of Centennial Beach. Had the right combine of wave and wind strength. Key was enough wind for full kite drifting and faster turning.

I wonder if a dedicated wave kite (Neo) would have significantly better drift and fast turning vs my well built rangy but somewhat heavy freeride kites. There were times with nice waves but lighter wind so the best I could do was little backside turns. Otherwise my kite stalls or doesn't turn fast enough if I go too deep downwind. Hopefully one day catch a Doutone Neo demo at Squamish.
