Maui windsurfing day 1

Windsurfing shop talk

Crazy day! Got the kids a soft top surfboard and went to Launiupoko Beach Park to do some surfing and Sup. Kai grabbed the surfboard and went out first, I was getting ready and looked up to see him riding in his first wave all the way to the beach. Kai says to me "I like this beach", ten minutes later he steps on a sea urchin, now he definitely doesn't like this beach! Got him home and his foot looked after when I thought I might head to Kanaha to Sup. Checked the webcam and it was windy! Scrambling to load the car I bump into Bernd Roediger in the parking lot, awesome! Got to Kanaha Kai and grabbed a new firelight 5.7 and a 109 Kode. Was rigged and ready to go and the wind totally dies. Waited around for about an hour talking to Johnny and Craig. They decided to go get bigger gear and then the wind came back, light but awesome, again! Headed out with some cheers from the locals and actually had the break to myself for about 20 minutes then Johnny and Craig came back out and it was us 3 from Vancouver with the place to ourselves for a while.
Wind was light but I managed to score a few nice wave rides, awesome, again!
Aloha Maui!

PS Kai is feeling much better tonight, good thing he was wearing booties!

Vimeo was not working so video is here..

Glad to hear about Kai's first wave and that his foot is healing fast. Bad urchin!
My kids were super nervous of the urchins at Break Wall and my buddy Scott told them - "No worries, just fall flat!"  :? :D ;) My kids still laugh about that.

Fun to see the wave wall up in the WS video! 8-)

Forecast looks like the wind should improve next week. Enjoy!

That's what I've been waiting for! I thought it was going to start today but it turned into a slog fest. Some good light wind practice though and I managed to tack onto a nice wave today. Actually did a lot of tacks today, I noticed my wave count goes up the better I tack. :D
Unfortunately the wave below turned off my camera and this was just after I launched. Trying to get back in looked similar. I managed to catch a few nice ones today as they were a little bigger than Wednesday but my day ended having to up haul 3 times to get in as well as a few washings through the break as the wind totally died when I was outside. Shared a nice wave with Craig today, too bad the camera was off! :!: Sad to see Johnny and Craig leave.

Better day today, still light but getting good and slogging and riding. Some nice waves today and enough wind to keep me going. Lots of tack practice!

Hi Michael, looks like today at Kanaha was pretty good, I was put off by the small north shore swell report and surfed at Kihei Cove on the 2-4+ ft south swell instead. Nice and clean waves on the south end by the lava point.

What do you think about the next 3 days for wind? Forecasts are a bit mixed and I probably can only get one more kite pass from the wifey before we go home on Saturday, but I'm thinking that tomorrow has the best combo for wind and waves. Hopefully see you out at Lowers one of these days, I'm usually on my black Naish Ride 10 unless it's really nuking ;)

Love that light wind DTL feeling where the bump powers the board up and you feel the wave build!! Can't say that was the experience at Acadia last Saturday unfortunately

Super jealous, looks amazing there. Make the most of it and train up for those epic coast days coming in soon! :D
