Epic waves!!!
I was on my way to join Mike at White Rock but when I saw the Boundary Bay sensor hit SSE 20 at 7:30 turned around and went up to 3rd Avenue.
James (8m+surfboard) and I (9m+surfboard) were the first kiters on the water with Michael windsurfing. I was survival kiting on 9m so switched to 7m with full depower. That's when Bill (8m+surfboard) joined in.
It was disorganized and gusty inside ... but cleaned up nice once we got outside in the full exposure of the south wind (S 26-30+). The waves/rollers were shoulder (maybe head) high with 50 ft silky smooth sections between. Got taken out several times by breaking waves but scored tons of sweet gybes and super long toeside wave rides.
So much fun sharing with waves with Bill and all the other windsurfers. I like most of the windsurfers couldn't resist the epic wave rides and ended up way downwind by Beach Grove ... well worth it !!!
It was odd to have the windsurfers (maybe 6+) outnumber the kiters (only 3 of us).
Everyone milked it to the last drop (3 hrs TOW). Bill and I didn't have enough wind to make it all the way back to the beach so we conveniently self-rescued by a sandbar and walked back in shallow glassy water.
What an excellent way to end the work week ... without work.
