Let's talk about foiling

I was at Locarno and I couldn't get off the beach. F2 Stoke 135L (freeride) 6.0 Retro and SS Fwind1 (Gamma 68cm). The wind was directly onshore, I couldn't even fly my sail (didn't bring my fins so that was not an option). There was a wind line and it stopped around 200-300m before the shore, which was strange considering it was onshore wind. I've never seen a North wind like that.

Even some good kiters were saying the wind was behaving strangely. I was at Airtime Boardsports for last operating day (free beer and windsurfing magazines). He's cleaning up tomorrow last chance for closing windsurfing stuff.

I also heard that a group of 6 kiters did a downwinder from Squamism to Spanish Banks.

I guess next time I'll rig a 6.5 or 7.5m.

Why not just get close out 2019 Blast LTD (save $$$)? Any improvements in the 2020 model?

2020 is the first year for foil boxes in the 115. The next best option was a closeout JP Super Sport 113 that has a foil box. However, I laid out the Blast, Super Sport and a couple of foil boards on my computer and scaled each board to its length. The Blast has the fin box in the same position relative to its footstraps compared to the foil boards. The JP’s fin box was quite a bit further behind. So maybe it wouldn’t work as well.

Didn't know that. The 2019 models are discounted to US$ 1600. I really like that board as a crossover. Just wish it was cheaper; might have to bite the bullet and not eat out for a year.

Yep getting off the beach was a joke at the paved parking lot. I uphauled, had no wind and fell in. Tried again and found i couldn't clear the pier. Eventually i dragged my board West 100m where the kiters were to get enough to go did one reach, got on foil and was headed to Stanley Park. I turned around the wind died, and ended up landimg at the sailing centre. Afer that it kicked in again and my 5.0 wad actually okay for about 20 minutes. I could have used a 6.5, but even that wouldnt be perfect.

Getting everything sorted out for my foiling purchase, but I thought this was interesting.

I had a conversation with Gary Stone at Isthmussailboards and he felt that the deep tuttle box construction on the Bic boards (185 D) was good that I could stick a foil on it at my 245 lbs and it would work fine. The only item he suggested was adding this:

Am I going to foil on the Techno? Probably not. I will go with BigD and grantmac recommendations; just working out details.

Would it be worthwhile to "Retrofit" an existing Tuttle box boards by adding a rear center foostrap plate.

Use a metal plate and use extra-long screws to hold the plate to the board and foil. Drill holes for the footstrap (use machine screws) and an optional strip of foam padding underneath.

The end result is a heavier backend, but you have a rear center position over the foil mast. plus the load of the Tuttle screws would be distributed over the plate.

I'm not sure whether that's an advantage to existing Wizard/Dialer as I don't have one.
