Something Stinks at Kits Beach

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

Holy Crap!

Latest Kits beach Ecoli report is almost 13,000. Anything over 400 gets the beach shut down for swimming.

For comparison the samples for East False Creek were only 842 and I wouldn't dip my toe in there.

Something must have dumped a load of poop or fertilizer in to one of the Kits beach drain culverts or something as I've never seen it anywhere near this high.

I got out at kits for 1 hour and was gone for when the lifeguards started at 11:30.

I hope you kept your mouth closed man

I thought the water seemed a little more viscous than usual.

Funny how dog beach literally 50 yards around the corner is fine.

If it were more about "not having kids that will dump shit or fertilizer in to culverts or overboard boats" it would be more relevant. These astronomical readings are almost certainly due to the actions of a few individuals.

The worst site was 13,000.
130m up the beach it was 1500.
250m up the beach it was 200.
370m up the beach it was 50.

I would'nt think "a few individuals" could have such a profound effect on tidal flow water.
Toronto has similiar problems when ever it gets warm etc..
But yeah you're right humans are doing a great job of caretaking lifeboat earth.

And you are correct, they don't have a profound effect on the tidal flow water as you can clearly see by how localized this is. It's obviously stuff that was deposited there or more likely in to a culvert that empties there.

maybe they diverted water out from Granville island into Kits (away from Fasle creek). they were doing some changes around Burrard past years.
