Wondering if anyone is thinking about heading out, Friday averaged around 20 knots and yesterday around 18. Any recommendations, should I launch from spit or newport beach?

I imagine the beach would be a safer bet... less rocks :S

If anyone was curious about heading out... Good conditions (stayed steady for 2-3 hrs) about a dozen or so kites at the spit, and 1 kiter at nexus beach.

Early start to the season.

Graphs show westerly wind lately. How were the actual wind conditions?

Didn’t feel like westerly at all these recent days I’ve been out. Also weird is GFS predicted outflow entire week last week but actually inflow

Not much of a "normal" temperature gradient that I usually use to predict Sqaumish wind. Some the locals I spoke with yesterday were calling it a localized thermal, since the water in the sound is still so cold and the hot weather has started early, its causing a thermal. The wind was good at the spit but its definable not a normal inflow as its a super localized wind- almost no wind at Porteau cove and not much in town. Not sure how reliable it is but the wind graphs don't lie!!!! Its been blow'in at the spit

Yeah air temp in Pemberton was about the same as Squamish.

It was very local BUT the spit was pretty well filled in. I think the wind was north west?

Cold water indeed.

Hey Alton,

The iKite graphs direction is messed up. I think in that massive storm we had it broke it or threw the system off. That direction it is showing is actually the normal inflow direction.

If you compare it to the terminal reading graph on the sws page you will see. The sws pages graph is no where near as detailed for wind readings and doesnt update too often, but its direction reading is correct.
