104l Futura Sticks.

Very happy with my 104l futura but it does not want to release from the water easily for jump gybes etc.
What are current options for boards out there that are loose and fast?

Have you tried sanding the bottom? I had a Drops board that was a pig to get planing. Wet sanded with 600grit and it really lit up. Just a thought.

My Futura 114 seems to plane up quick. Mind you I'm not attempting to do jumps with it and if you are attempting to do so you are likely more qualified to comment than I. However, I don't really associate the Futura with jumping. It likes flat water.

All boards jump well, especially race boards. But those super long fins might catch when you're spinning the board around on a jump gybe.

The OP also said he wants a board that is loose. Race boards are not loose. Neither are Futuras. Plus they're not durable enough for constant pounding.

Get a FSW from any brand. I remember someone on WTFBC is selling a Fanatic suitable for Newport Beach (I'm sorry, Nexen!), which is the OP's favourite launch.

I suggest jumping the crap out of your Futura. Try stuff on it. To get your money's worth, sail it until you fold it. If you're hard enough on it, you can snap it in half within a couple of months. Then graduate to a FSW, which is a current option for a board that is loose and fast.

The fin could be a factor but the board just doesnt seem to release from the water My Roberts bump and jump is fine but only 75l we estimate. All my previous boards jumped fine as well with the exception of the 122l isonic
Maybe a bigger Roberts?

Why does your Futura not want to release from the water? Who knows. Get rid of it.

Hey I used to jump gybe a race board. However, it was hard to carve gybe because of the hard rails. I hated that board, so I decided to have some fun and get rid of it by jumping the crap out of it. My plan worked within a couple of weeks. The swim back to shore was only an hour.

Futuras/Isonics are designed to stay planted so you can put the power down. You only see guys jump them with really good ramps on a long swell period.

I'd get on that FSW.

this fits with what I'm encountering. The board is great fun but just doesnt like to " pop".
I'll check out some fsw's this year.
