Today I sailed "Newport" beach for the very first time! Gusty with big holes. I think Nexan would have been better... :)

South Jetty (state park) or Agate wayside? South Jetty can be a super fun spot when the wind shows, but often has days that are just teasingly light for windsurfing but enough for kite and is a popular spot for kiting. Agate wayside (to the north) has a reputation for being half to full sail size stronger than South Jetty due to the 'cape affect' (according to the locals). If you find yourself there on a wish-there-was-just-a-little-bit-more day, you might want to give Agate wayside a look-see.

Newport Beach tends to be a sail size bigger than The Spit. Most peeps find Newport to be the same as Nexen.

Ops (ignore the comments directed at Newport, OR). Still getting use to the 'rebranding'. When I hear "Newport" I think of several places, but none of them are in Squamish.

Its been awhile, but isn't Newport Beach just Nexan beach? Was there a name change?

You mean Newport Beach used to be called Nexen Beach? Wow must be before my time!

O the good old days at Nexen (sigh) now we are stuck with Newport Beach and a sail size bigger ;)

I usually launch from Newport (Nexen) and sail up to the spit. I'm typically on race gear (7.0 and a Roberts board) so getting up to the spit is not an issue.

Lets call it New Beach (NB).

http://www.newportbeachsquamish.ca/

The concept hasn't changed since it was designed. The good: landfill will get us out of the terminal shadow. The bad there will be a shadow from the wharf, choke point from small boats.

In the concept drawing, there is no open parking anywhere; parking will be limited or paid in building parking, long walk to the beach. Could your board fit in an elevator if its in building parking? Hopefully, there's a drop off parking, but then how do prevent your gear from being swiped as you park your car?

SWS has been in discussion with them since the initial design. Hopefully a redesign!
