Yeah no doubt! To think people deny climate change. WTF!
Was Noticing all the lower mainland smog crossing the straight last week, and reflecting on how it used to look when i was a kid... pretty short time -big change. This wasn't just smoke either but smog... pretty sad situation we are all involved in... just saying.
hot spell looks to be over too in a few days so no wind again...

Just cause it's hot out doesn't make it global warming. The small part of the world we live in is very well insulated from the effects of global warming. It's just a hot calm spell. Yes we did set a new record for Halibut Bank water temp yesterday at 24.8 degrees, but it's only 0.2 degrees hotter than the previous record set back in 1998 of 24.6 degrees.

If you look at the sea surface temp for the lifetime of the HB buoy (1992-2017) there is no upward trend:

Not saying global warming isnt a thing. But it also needs to be considered that the earth goes through cycles. Every year will not be the same as the last!
Let just hope the wind keeps blowing!

All I know is Sunday night I was able to swim and wakesurf out past the crab traps in WR without a wetsuit and it was comfortable to downright pleasant.

Frankly yeah, they do. I don't hike them or climb them. The only one I ever ski is covered in snow during the winter either way. I don't rely on them for water in any way.

This part of the world has been warming for a few thousand years and the glaciers are like ice left out on the table, they don't melt instantly as the ambient temperature rises. They have been receding since before we were here.

I don't know what kind of trend the air temperature at glacier altitudes is over the years but if you look at the mean temperature of Vancouver at YVR from 1937-2013 there is no clear trend line.

People (and especially the media) are quick to jump on the highs of our temperature spikes and claim it as global warming when really it's just variability and frankly that doesn't do anyone any good.

The earth is warming.

But metro Vancouver has yet to really see the effects of it and we probably wont until 2040 or so.
