SUP,Surf

Knee high rollers at North Chestermans today. Tried to SUP the 8’x25” soft top, didn’t work out. I could stand on it but not well enough to catch waves. I did like the angles the paddle mount offers though...

If you don't have your inflatable SUP with you Tofino Paddle Surf, Surf Club @ Long Beach Resort (Cox Bay), and T'ashii Paddle School @ Jammie's Rainforest Inn all rent wave SUP's.

May have to read the swell, and bounce around Chestermann ... may have to seat for 5 minutes and see the beach/breaks ... at least you are having fun. My time there is next week.

Looking forward to Wickanninish bay (in the afternoon and choosing a break).

In hawaii I saw a few guys standing up on longboards, barely floating, light feet, centered and waiting for waves. It takes practice ... a few days, and without giving up it may work.

Saturna has been gusting over 30 knots for the last 2 hours and Boundary Bay is gusting to 19 knots. Waves at GB's Beach in PR?

24-31 saturna at 10am (first reading over 20 knots).
Sandy shores: 15-20 knots.


it's missing the 35 knot peak to make decent waves. Glad there are cameras, sensors; nice to know before driving.

After seeing Kd surf 8-10ft waves at incinerator rock (probably the biggest surf you can get at Tofino) I must admit proper longboarding takes a lot of skill.
So let's find a good longboarding video...

When I was out on Friday at really low tide (0.2m Point Atkinson) and I was checking out that wave machine off Wreck I came across some nice breaking waves that looked like they might be decent to paddle in to. Might be a good low tide option for Wreck.

you got there probably at 2ft tide (very low), and 0.9mHB (at 10,11am) on Friday ... WB sand banks close to shore are many and not a clean break, but you manage to go way out there, where it's first breaking.
We had a few sessions last week but nothing spectacular (0.7-0.9mHB), enough for some exercise and to keep in shape for a better session.
We have not had a 1 - 1.6mHB session yet, also it's very hard to make it match with the right tide ... but if I had the day off, you can always make it work at low tide...

if I had a whole week off I could probably have had 8+ hours of solid surf and have fun in the process (iona trail at low tide and bike), places I want to try, etc.

Best surf is probably Darrells break ... unreachable except maybe with a dinghy ...

Has anyone noticed good conditions at wreck beach coming up? I don't really feel like I have a great grasp of what will likely give something surfable there.
