Windsurf harness ??

Windsurfing shop talk

I would like some opinions from windsurfers on harnesses.
The woman is sailing well now and is ready to learn the harness. I would prefer a chest but they dont seem to be available anymore?
Can a waist be fitted for sailing loose as opposed to kiting?
I use a seat for everthing, the waist would ride up kiting and I used to use a chest when wave sailing( been awhile since i've sailed in proper waves), but feel the seat might be tricky to learn with?

What do you mean by "sailing loose"? Also what kind of windsurfing do you see her doing?

my experience with a waist kiting is that to keep it in place was restrictive. never used one for sailing.
Who knows how far she'll go but so far she is progressing very quickly, I believe is "hooked" and is surprising herself.

Some guys wear oversized waist harnesses loosely for windsurfing . Riding up nbd. Just push it back down occasionally.

I use either depending on what gear I'm on. Generally bigger sails I'll go with a seat. For this I use a Dakine XT which has a relatively high hook and good back support.

Waist needs very good stance or they ride up. Also for me a lower boom with longer lines. They can be easier to hook and unhook depending on line length and boom height.

waist > seat (learning to use a harness, mobility, using with freeride or wave gear)
seat > waist (leverage, lock-in position, using with race gear)
