The GFS for Squamish looks a little suspicious to it will probably be late and short lived today.

If you have a foil or big ass kite, try Jericho/Spanish Banks today.

S1 – South Chesterman – Wavesailing (2018 May 10)
Image

Photoshoot. Slog and ride. Fun-size waves with limited consequences (still managed to get rolled once in the outside by set wave). Nice to see Bamfielddave back on the water - bad foil! Colin locked his keys in his car (but lucky his gear was outside). The OR crew was there doing a 2018 product photoshoot. Lots of work (for windsurfers) but some rewards. Disappointing dinner at the Floathouse, then deep down the first spur.

S2 – Long Beach – SUP (2018 May 11)

Shoulders. Mario talked Tsawwassen and I into trying the high-tide pealing right inside Lovekin, but before we got out it was declared ‘crap’. Found Tsawwassen up at Tinnies (which was my first choice) doing laps (multiple waves). Lots of fun on soft open shoulders for limited work. Lots of party waves shared and boards swapped for ‘testing’. Rumor had it inside was unrelenting down at Lovekin. Skydivers landed on the beach.

S3 – South Chesterman – Wavesailing (2018 May 11)

Repeat. Mini slog and ride. Tsawwassen said more work than fun, but I took more sail (6.1) and had a few more liters too so it was more fun and less work than the first session here for me. More patience required, but the odd background set of south swell would roll through round and some would stand up. Tried Tsawwassen’s Tabou (102) and me like (even in the light stuff). Appreciated Tsawwassen’s reminder to move my hand for top turn - it helped free up the board! Fun cool down session. Shark spotted (but it was a kid’s kite). Cedars for dinner then second spur.

S4 – Long Beach – SUP (2018 May 12)

Image
Glass. Morning glass in the fog, then sun. Small but cleaned up at Tinnies. Bigger in front of Incinerator Rock and heavy at Lovekin. Lots of open faces and a few healthy sized waves too. Different than expected, but still fun session with Tsawwassen (thanks for the loan of the GoPro). Parking lot and main break were both busy.

Day 1 of Vacation, drive to children’s museum in Olympia. My 3.5 year old loved it, even the 7mo’s head was on a swivel. Finish up with a swim at the pool and the kids are done.

Day 2 of Vacation, made it to Tillamook, Oregon. Quick surf at Oceanside. Waves were 4-7 foot well organized sets. Must have been a far off storm. Waves had tones of power. My weak arms struggled, but I managed to make it past in a gap between sets.

Scary / Fun being on the outside by myself in a new place. Managed to catch one in and make a turn before it closed out.

Made it out one more time, but nothing left in the tank to catch a wave. Eventually got caught inside and pounded. Nasal drain for the rest of the day.

Been over a year since I last shortboarded and my power/stamina showed it. Beautiful spot, good times! Rest of the week looks like smaller surf which is okay by me.

Great spot to explore, there is a tunnel through the headlands to another beach which had lots of sea life.
