Nothing is free anymore. Pretty soon I'm going to have to pay to wipe my ass.

My issue with this move is that because of the remote location and limited draw apart from 10 weekends a year the parks board isn't going to see a dime. Most of the money will go in to infrastructure and policing and end up in Easy Park's pocket.

Places like Kits Beach and Stanley Park are busy 7 days a week for 6 months of the year. It's a huge difference.

It's not like you have much option either, it's a beach you need to drive to. Luckily its only April to September which is when we can't access the good kiting parts of the beach anyway.

That's still all of April, 75% of May and 75% of September that you'll now have to pay. 2.5 months.

The question is how many good kiting days of those 2.5 months are worth an $87 pass, let alone approx 180 days of the duration? I've come out on a windy Saturday and Sunday during low tide in the dead of summer to have that westward parking lot totally stuffed with no parking in sight having to wait and cut into the rare few hours of a session.

I've been buying Season Parking passes for Locarno/Jericho the last three years. $87 for six months. Many of you sail WAY more than I do. If a season pass is available for SB you should be able to justify your pass in just 6 or 7 sessions.

Yes it sucks to go from free to paid. However, those of us who sail regulaliy from Locarno, Jericho, and the Sailing center have been paying out the wazoo for years. You either drop your gear off and find some free street parking and then walk the 5-10mins each way, pay the daily rate of $13, or suck it up and buy a season pass. I did the whole drop-off and walk for a couple years but was just wasting too much time walking too from the vehicle and just was a PITA. The daily rate of $13 is of course ridiculous if you sail frequently. So the best solution really is the season pass.

It would be great if the city could at least MERGE the parking zones. I.E. A Jericho and Spanish Banks season pass fall under ONE zone so your season pass is good at either location. I think that would be a fair compromise. I don't think it's right that someone would need to buy a season pass for Jericho AND Spanish Banks.

What I would really like to see is the parking fees spread out evenly across all parks but at lower rate. Perhaps $5 for the day and maybe a season pass for $40. This seems fair for everyone in the city.

The difference is that with the sailing centre, SUP rental and playing fields on top of the fact that there is quite a small parking lot, that area is actually busy a lot of the time and only requires 2 pay stations.

The rest of Spanish Banks is pretty much the opposite scenario, most of the time it's huge empty parking lots. They will need to install at least 15 pay stations. There is no way the Parks Board will see much of this revenue. It will mostly be going to Easy Park.

I also contacted Easy Park and they did say that:
1) It will not be part of lot #69, it will be a new lot
2) You can't buy a seasons pass until April 1 2018
