Hey Pavel.
The Gorge is a long way to go to buy just one board. You will pay 100 bucks in gas. Then there is the cost of food, a possible overnight stay etc. It all adds up and suddenly your $200 board is more like 400 or 500. Not to mention the time to drive down and back.
With that said, if you are looking for a mini vacation and need several things Hood River is THE place to go for reasonably priced small gear. My wife and I went to the season-end swap meet last September for the first time. We picked up an AWESOME 2008 Starboard Pure Acid 86L for $200. Perfect for my wife. Picked up some smaller Sailworks sails for cheap a mast and other misc stuff. Also note that anything you buy from the shops in Oregon are tax tree!
Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong at all with a board as old as 2006, 07, 08. There is WAY more of a difference between 1998-2008 vs 2008-2018 boards. If it's in good condition, at a good price, and you like it, BUY IT! If you get it at a good price you can sail it, try it, see if you like it etc. If you like it, GREAT! You got a good board for cheap. If you don't like it then no big deal. Sell it and buy another board to try. If you buy a board for 200-300 bucks and don't like it you should easily be able to get your money back or perhaps a very small loss. Sometimes you can even resell at a slight profit!
Of course everyone wants the newest board but usually that means $$$($)!
A Starboard Kode or Kode FSW in the 100L range would be a great board for you. If you found one locally in the 2010-2012 range it would probably be a good balance between age and cost. I would expect a fair price would be around 400-600 for a Kode of that age in reasonable condition. I wouldn't pay anymore than that! That would cost roughly around the same total price as the board in the gorge with all the expenses to get it.
PS... 2 Years ago I bought a 2014 (then only 2 years old) Starboard Kode FSW 94L Carbon Fiber on the local Vancouver Craigslist. My ideal small board. It is mint. The original owner only sailed it twice! It included a second brand new fin. Price...$500 CAD!!
Ezzylover is still mad at me for this one (only because he missed it)
