My wife and I drove back from Hood River and through this a day ago just before the fire really took off. Pretty crazy. The day it started we were driving a circular route around the Gorge to sight see. When we went through Cascade Locks, Over the Bridge of the Gods, and in to Stevenson everything was find. By the time we returned to Hood River you could see a HUGE billowing mushroom cloud of smoke high above Eagle Creek.
On Sunday when we drove through on I-84 you could tell the fire had grown since it started the day before. Side roads were closed with local traffic jams. Smoke was intense.
Now I-84 is closed and this fire is becoming a big deal. I really hope they can get it under control soon. Our thoughts are with everyone down there.
