When there's absolutely no wind

it went up to hb0.4m, but not enough.

If you want to speed his learning of surfing:

This is what he can do beside you while your are SUPing in flat water...

(1) learn to paddle:

(2) learn to rest, sitting on his board, as breaks while paddling.

So next time there are waves he can focus on standing up and less on balance:

The smaller the board (less weight) the safer it is, as the board is a piece of furniture next to you in semi controllable conditions.

Surfboard size, just a head over his height:

This is by experience, I am not an instructor, same as any windsurfer giving pointers on windsurfing.

Great for SUP, beginners. at WB. I can't make it but looking at strait, there will be something, and HB will get 0.5-0.6m.

today 10:30am-12:30pm. Go to the Wreck beach parking, take a look from there if there is surf (like Dave's photos), pay for 2 Hours $3, go down. It will last 2 hours.

I went out to WB Monday morning to test out my new SUP ( http://www.uliboards.com/product/specia ... n-10-lopez ). I knew it wouldn't be surfable with HB only hitting 0.4m but I wanted to test out the board in some unstable conditions and just get out on the water.

The waves were really clean and nicely spaced even though it was only a 3 sec period at HB. They only needed a bit more to be ridable so I'm sure that at 0.5m+ it will set up beautifully for SUP surfing.

It was a great morning with the sun shining and glassy waves with 0 wind. I was sweating heavily until the wind picked up.

The Lopez seems like it will be a great board for WB, no need to baby it and not too heavy on the carry down (anything seems to heavy on the carry back up though :P). Definitely not an overly stable board though and I'm going to have to be on my toes until I get used to it. Tracks pretty poorly on the flats with the thruster but I don't expect much out of a surf oriented board. I'm going to try a single long center and see how it tracks with that instead.

There were a 3-4 people camped down there and one old naked guy walking around. Lots of joggers going down then back up the stairs too.

Looking forward to catching some waves there soon.

That's great!. As summer gets near there will be more NW sessions. Keep going at it. Like I said, when HB hits 1.0-1.2m you'll be for some Tofino-like conditions with no wind, and being in the city is a plus as there is no traveling involved. You can be back for dinner with family in no time.
And when people ask, don't say you were surfing... they'll laugh as there is no surf in Vancouver.

It has increased slightly, which means hb 05-06m in the next reading (with Northern of georgia strait keeping 15 knots steady) ... still small conditions.
Because its NNW right now, these waves will never hit ambleside as it needs WNW to get any. Glassy conditions now, at this moment, @ WB.

Deflated wind but still at 0.4m @10am (probably 0.45m). That was it, no more. Next time it'll be tomorrow morning 6:15am-7:30:am. If 0.6mhb I'll be there.

even though it may seem building, is dying, Sisters is now 12mph.

But at least it got to 0.5m, good enough for SUP.

NW always downgraded. Giving a heads up on Saturday morning if it turns NW. Check 5:40am for hb0.5m or better and Sisters 15 knots+, and head to WB.

You have to be patient as we have not had a strong NW wind for a while (25knots+) from the strait.

I found a photo someone took of sandy ambleside last year. I guess I was probably at an end that day, battery running low, I am just missing a cane to stand up (it takes a lot of energy out of you when waves have not much power, board sinks and grabbing any wave that may float me).

The point, I would consider those conditions the best for enjoying SUPing (for your new board Slappy)... no wind, some ramp and ride, and as always no people around ... and the best to learn to surf (for your kid, Dave).

Surf got to 1.1meters at HB this morning (2am). It must've been nice at WB at that time. There was no surf at 7pm yesterday when I passed by WB.
