Jericho Parking Pass 2024

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

Any of you get your 2024 season parking pass for Jericho yet? What is the pay parking situation for Jericho 2024? It seems like the season pass might be priced such that it no longer makes sense.

According to the JSCA link below there have been changes in parking rates in 2023. Ie, since the 2023 season pass expired.

https://jsca.bc.ca/2023/11/01/pay-parki ... r-april-1/

If this is information is still current the new daily max rate is $7.75 and the seasonal pass remains at the ridiculously inflated $150.

Back in 2020 when the pass was still a realistic $87 I remember it worked out to between 10 and 11 sessions to break even. Now at the $7.75 vs $150 pass its over 19 sessions to break even. In my years windsurfing only one season have I exceeded 19 sessions total. So, unless we have a spectacular season this year (hope so) I'm not sure the season pass makes sense anymore except for the ultimate hardcore people (Lubo, Igor, Francis :D). However, I guess there is still the perk of not having to worry about paying for parking each time and possibly getting a ticket if you forget.

For "fun" here's how the season rates have changed the past 6 years. Hmm...

2019 - $87
2020 - $87
2021 - $100
2022 - $107.50
2023 - $150
2024 - $150

Easypark says the max daily rate is $14.25 April 1 to Sept 30. $7.75 is the off season. Based on this you break even on your 11th session with a season pass. However, seeing as the City is now charging daily rates year-round (maybe they always were?) shouldn't the season pass be also good for the year. Just sayin'...

11 weekend sessions essentially too, because you can usually find a spot mid week.

Easypark is saying their website is wrong. The season pass they say has increased again this time from $150 to $225. WTF?! A 50% increase on top of a 40% increase? This is out of touch with realty.

I had a pass the last few years but this is ridiculous, and it's not even an annual pass, even though it's year round pay parking. I'm just going to aim for free parking weekdays as slappy says and pay the day rate if I can't find a spot.

A 50% increases a joke, though I can't say I am surprised that an ABC-controlled Parks Board would try pulling shit like this. I doubt I can justify a season's pass anymore, especially when there's free parking down the road.

Exactly. Up to this year you could park for free in the off season October to March. For people that access the site regularly year-round the price has increased from $87 per year in 2020 to $375 in 2024. 331% inflation in five years! WHAT are they smoking at the park board? Is a petition needed at this point maybe? Perhaps also the local news media would be interested in the story. This type of thing fires me up.

You guys are hilarious. $87 for a pass in 2020 was a grandfathered rate more suited to 1997 than 2020 and wouldn't even put a dent in the operation costs of that park.

They make more $ off the average day user who pays the day rate than they do by trying to sell a set number of subsidized yearly passes. From a business decision perspective, the only way they can keep offering the passes is to bring them up to a comparable amount that still benefits the pass holder if they use the park regularly.

If it were a private business, they would probably eliminate the yearly or seasonal passes altogether so that there are more parking spaces for daily users who are paying the full rate.(Daily Rate: 150 x $14.25 = $2,137.50)

April 1 to Sept 30th =~150 days
$375/$14.25 = 26.3 days

You'd need to use the parking lot more than 27 days out of 150 days (~1.4 times a week) for it to be worthwhile buying the pass.

Anyway, the free beach is 1/2 km to the West if the pass is now not worth it.

Comparing the summer rates, 15.79 days is the point of indifference; where the daily rate equals the season pass. ($225/$14.25 = 15.79 days). Rounding to nearest day, if you know for sure you will do 15 days or less in the summer season, pay the daily rate. If you know for sure you will do 16 or more days, buy the season pass.

Winter rates are $150 for the season and $7.75 daily. $150/$7.75 = 19.35 days. At 19 or less, pay the daily. 20 or more, buy the season pass. The winter season pass is relatively even more expensive compared to summer. 20 days to payoff vs 16.
