Stolen Windsurfing Gear - Please Help.

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

My windsurfing van was broken into and my boards and sails stolen. Please help.

1. 2004 Starboard Carve 121 with board bag, footstraps, baseplate, fin. Serial #: SU1215020316.
2. 2003 Starboard Carve 99 with board bag, footstraps, baseplate, no fin. Serial #: SU993020039.
3. 2015 Sailworks Retro 6.5. Blue/Orange/White/Clear.
4. 2015 Sailworks Retro 6.0. Blue/Orange/White/Clear.
5. 2008 Sailworks Retro 5.0. Blue/Red/Clear. It's been a little while since I used this sail. I believe the colors are correct but they may vary a bit.

I am seriously stressed and discouraged by the loss of my gear. PLEASE, if you see any gear like this that seems even remotely suspicious let me know or contact the RCMP (File number RI17-29920). Thank you.

Very sorry to hear this Mark.
A friend of mine had his very expensive bike stolen, got no help from the police. Had much better luck dealing with the Crime Stoppers. They actually assigned a few people to investigate and found the person who stole it. He no longer had the bike though..,
Good luck

Very sorry to hear this. I am curious, is your gear covered by insurance?

Thanks for the suggestion Pavel. I will contact Crime Stoppers. The RCMP eventually did come to take a look and document. Took them 5 hours to arrive while I waited and guarded my van.

Windsurfing gear is a pretty specific theft. A bike is more mainstream and easy to fence. It can also be stripped for parts. This isn't so with a board or a sail. I'm hoping sooner or later my gear will pop up somewhere. The windsurfing community here is pretty small so hopefully someone will see something somewhere.

I'm contacting my home insurance company this morning. I'm hoping something can be done.

I

It occurred sometime between Sunday September 10th at 5:15pm and Tuesday September 12th at 8:45am.

My van was parked on the street outside our townhouse complex in Richmond. No 5. and King road.

I have heavy duty locks on the rear and side of the van. I thought that even if they smashed a window they could not get the boards out. Obviously I was wrong. When I discovered my van one of my boards was half way through the window! They must have been interrupted and took off with the last board half way in the window. Crazy!

At least they left my 94l Kode and and some of the smaller sails. Fortunately my wife's 86 Pure Acid was in the house at the time. So at least we can still do Squamish and Boundary. However, unless it's really windy, I guess English bay sailing is on hold for a while until I can replace my Carve 121 and my wife's Carve 99. Plus the 6.5, 6.0, 5.0 Retros. Argh!!

Check with your neighbours near the street within a 100m to see if anyone has a security cam as they may have recorded the theft and you may get a plate number and vehicle description.
We had a few cars broken into near my place and one neighbour had a cam. Got the licence plate and full video of the thief breaking into one car.
