Ding Repair

Off Topic Comments, Help, Tips and Trick

Looking for recommendations for top quality epoxy ding repair. So far Gabe highly recommends Switchblade Surfboards.

Anyone else I should consider? Ideally it would be expedient too as I'm heading to Ucluelet Thursday night.

Didn't notice the 5-8 massive rocks on the sand flats beside the sunken dingy and came down right on top of one on my skim today and put two punctures in the deck

I'm interested too. Want to patch up my "tank" before winter. So far I'm considering "Ding Putty" https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5028-169/ ... pair-Putty

I use UV Cure epoxy for dings and it works well. I got it online, Solarez.

If you are in a rush you might have to do it yourself. Fibertek in Burnaby has everything you need. http://www.fibertek.ca/catalog.htm
I just finished a repair like that and used West Systems Epoxy with Micro Balloons. David Murray told me about them. They work great as you can add them to the epoxy until you get a putty like consistency then fill in your holes and it will seep in. Easy to sand and you might even be able to get yellow colour for it. The colour is expensive though, like $30. All in I think it cost me about $100 but you'll have enough stuff to do a lot of repairs.

I do a lot of ding repair since I'm a bit of a klutz and crash a lot. Thickened epoxy is okay for a very small one but honestly a little piece of 4oz cloth is even better. Get a good clear epoxy and it's nearly invisible. A must have for any rider.
White gorilla glue is another awesome item to keep on hand.

Bondic works shockingly well on old ABS covered windsurfers. Almost nothing will stick to that stuff. Plus it's instant.

So Switchblade has no listed hours on their website and only a contact email. The phone number google has for them is disconnected. Sent an email but no reply yet. Decided to go down there today at lunch and it's locked up and doesn't really look operational.

Does anyone know if they have set hours and if they are even still in business?

Switchblade did some amazing work on my white surfboard in 2014, they made it look new. It took almost 2 months in the shop though.

I called back in 2015 for some more work on the deck of the same white surfboard, and they told me it was going to be 3 months before they could even take the board to look at it. So I bought this instead, worked great and I have enough ding repair stuff on hand for at least 10 more fixes:
