For those of you who cross the border with your gear. Do the border guards give you any issues about your gear? What do you do to document your gear before going over?

Nothing to do unless your gear looks newly purchased with cardboard, plastic wrap, styrofoam and labels

Register the serial numbers with CBSA before you cross.
We use to hit the Florida keys every spring break and Canada border "can" ask for proof on anything of value anytime. They did once in four years and we had no issues 'cause we had the paperwork.
Close friend on seperate trip didnt one time at peace arch and was delayed 6 hours etc etc.

I usually take a picture of my stuff on the front lawn of my house before I pack it up. They've asked about gear before but never delayed me.

Pictures are good as they have the date the pic was taken and it's always good to have extra copies backed up somewhere in case anything gets stolen including your phone (with all your pics in it).

This is your safest bet. Ironically, it seems after I declared and paid taxes on gear I bought from the US I seemed to then be targeted. Last few times limited questions quick through.
