Got here early yesterday evening. The drive was intense. Rivers flowing down the highway, waterfalls coming off the cliffs, sheets of rain, very low visibility. Surf check last night was crazy. South west swell in the 2 to 3 times overhead size with strong side off shore winds in the 20-30kts range. Wind was supposed to clock southwest today. It blew very hard through the night. Guessing it was hitting 50kts. Station went down so not sure what it hit. This morning waves breaking over the island in the middle of North Chestermans. South Chestermans looked bigger and very disorganized. Wind did turn southwest, but not strong enough to get a kite up. Maybe 10-15 kts. Looks like surf is dropping quick, so I am happy. Probably won't get to kite, but should be able to get good surf in next few days.

Looks unsurfable. When it's that big check Twin rivers or Tonquin beach.

A sight to behold! Mackenzie may look more reasonable. And I've heard of guys surfing tonquin park. SW wind is pretty much the worst direction for Tof, anything else is good somewhere

 Heard rumours of giant blown out winter swell last week, but great to see some pictures! :D Hope you get some rides on glassy sets somewhere. Please post updates as your trip unfolds, if time permits. Safe travels!

No pics today, but surf was fun. Uncrowded 6-8 foot set waves. Same forest for tomorrow. Will try to get pics. Heading out with family. Gonna get our youngster ( 3 in june ) out in the shore slop. Today I got the dog on a long board.

Side note: Surf board designs have changed. Firewire has some amazing designs. Almost pulled the trigger on a 7 foot mini long board 3" thick. Perfect for a guy who needs all the help he can to get into the waves.

I don't think they make 5mm hooded suits for 3 yo kids and I wouldn't take a kid out in a 3mm this time of year. Make sure it's GBS too, especially the booties.

2c,
true. With my 6'8'' 35litre+ board, I can catch any wave earlier, get out of closing waves, higher speed on bigger waves. These boards are great for 6ft+surf as you are carving the wave slowly, on small waves it's easier to popup. What you don't get is the snapping quickness of a thin board, so, on medium surf it seems bulky.

A thin thruster board (6') on medium waves is a nicer board, a small movement & the board follows.
those are my only 2 boards.

Funny when David say "that's all you got!", yes! a wetsuit and a small board, closer to nature.

Beautiful day today at Cox bay, enjoy !
