English Bay Water Temp.

What's the water temperature like in English Bay now? Has it warmed up the last week or two? I'm trying to decide what wetsuit to wear next session. My last session at Locarno was July 29th and it was unusually COLD! I'd rather not wear my 5/4 hooded wetsuit in August if possible.

Check the water temp from the Halibut Bank bouy. Currently 18 degrees so some neoprene required.

Halibut Bank bouy. Thanks!

I was wearing my 3/2 that last session but the water felt unusually cold and the wind had a chill to it. Took me a while to warm up after.

Also take note of the air temp at Halibut Bank as that's the temperature of the wind that's hitting you. It can be 24 degrees in Vancouver and you'll have 20 degree air flowing over that bouy.

All the life gaurd stations write down the water temp. on a blackboard every morning. They take the reading at 8:00 am down at kits beach. There is a station just west of the pier.
